Discover Virtual
Flight Operations Manual v3.0
Official Documentation

Crew Handbook.

The comprehensive guide to operating within Discover Virtual. All active pilots are required to read, understand, and strictly adhere to the policies outlined within this Flight Operations Manual.

1.0 Philosophy & Agreement

Welcome to Discover Virtual. We are a premium leisure virtual airline operating exclusively on the Infinite Flight platform. Our mission perfectly balances the technical thrill of piloting heavy metal with the relaxed, sun-drenched atmosphere of global leisure travel.

1.1 The Discover Philosophy

At Discover Virtual, we believe that realism shouldn't compromise community. We bypass standard business hubs entirely, focusing strictly on premier vacation destinations. While we maintain high standards for realism, we simultaneously foster a relaxed, welcoming dispatch environment for aviators to grow.

1.2 Binding Agreement

By submitting a manifest and joining the Discover Virtual roster, you are explicitly agreeing to follow every rule outlined in this document. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse. Failure to comply with the guidelines set forth in this Crew Handbook may result in strikes, suspension, or immediate dismissal from the virtual airline, at the sole discretion of the Executive Board.

2.0 Recruitment Process

To ensure a high standard of airmanship within our ranks, Discover Virtual has established a thorough recruitment and onboarding process. All prospective pilots must meet baseline requirements and pass a theoretical assessment.

2.1 Application Prerequisites

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 13 years of age.
  • Flight Experience: Minimum of 100 logged hours and 100 total landings on Infinite Flight.
  • Infinite Flight Grade: You must currently hold at least Grade 3 on Infinite Flight.
  • Safety Record: Violation-to-Landing (V/L) ratio must be less than or equal to 0.10.
  • Data Collection: Please note that Discover Virtual collects your email address during the application process. This is strictly required for application form processing and essential VA communications.

2.2 The Entrance Assessment

Candidates will be prompted to take a theoretical examination via our Crew Center application portal.

  • Content: Multiple-choice questions covering airspace rules, general IF operations, and METARs.
  • Passing Grade: A strict minimum score of 85% is required to clear the manifest.
  • Retakes: If an applicant fails, operations will clear them to re-test after a 7-day cooldown.

3.0 Legal Disclaimers

3.1 Simulation Purposes Only

Discover Virtual is a virtual, non-profit organization created strictly for aviation enthusiasts and users of the Infinite Flight mobile flight simulator.

  • We are NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the real-world Discover Airlines, Lufthansa Group, or any of their subsidiaries.
  • This website, our Discord server, and all associated operations are for entertainment and simulation purposes only.
  • No real-world financial transactions, real-world flight booking, or real-world employment are associated with this virtual airline.

3.2 Data Privacy & Security

To facilitate operations, Discover Virtual collects minimal user data, including Discord IDs, IFC usernames, email addresses, and Infinite Flight display names. This information is used strictly for internal tracking and roster management. We will never sell, distribute, or leak your private information to third parties. For account deletion requests, users may contact the Executive Board.

4.0 Code of Conduct

Refined professionalism is the core of our identity. As a pilot for Discover Virtual, you represent our premium brand on the Infinite Flight servers, the Infinite Flight Community (IFC), and our Discord HQ.

4.1 Zero Tolerance Policy

Immediate dismissal for:

  • NSFW Content: No posting or sharing of explicit or highly inappropriate imagery/text.
  • Harassment: Targeting, harassing, or making derogatory remarks towards any member.
  • Discrimination: Hate speech regarding race, religion, orientation, or nationality.
  • Piracy/Cheating: Attempting to manipulate Discover Virtual flight logs.

4.2 Comms Etiquette

Rules for Discord & IFC:

  • Keep it Clean: Moderate swearing is permitted, but excessive or directed profanity is not.
  • No Spamming: Avoid pinging (@staff or @everyone) without a valid, urgent operational reason.
  • Voice Channels: Do not use soundboards abusively or mic-spam. Respect others.
  • Respect Staff: If a moderator asks you to drop a topic, comply immediately.

5.0 Disciplinary Action & Strikes

To ensure a high standard of professionalism, Discover Virtual operates on a strict disciplinary system. Minor infractions result in strikes, while major infractions result in immediate termination.

5.1 The Strike System

Strike 1: Warning

A formal written warning from the staff team outlining the broken rule. Remains on file for 60 days.

Strike 2: Suspension

A second offense within the 60-day period will result in a 7-day suspension of flight logging privileges.

Strike 3: Termination

A third offense guarantees immediate removal from the Virtual Airline and a permanent ban. Hours are forfeited.

5.2 The Appeal Process

If a pilot believes a strike was issued in error, they have the right to appeal via an HR ticket within 48 hours. Appeals must include factual evidence (screenshots, replays). The Executive Board will deliver a final, binding verdict.

6.0 Standard Operating Procedures

To ensure maximum realism across our curated network, pilots are expected to adhere to standardized procedures during all phases of flight. Alongside the official SOP document, adhere strictly to the foundational guidelines below.

6.1 Pre-Flight & Pushback

  • Gate Selection: Never spawn on top of an actively occupied gate.
  • Flight Plans: All waypoints must follow real-world airways (SIDs/STARs). Direct-to routing is prohibited for flights over 100nm.
  • Pushback: Ensure the path is clear. Do not push back through terminal buildings.

6.2 Airspace Etiquette

  • Speed Limits: Strictly observe the 250kts limit below 10,000ft MSL.
  • Unicom Usage: When no ATC is present, announce intentions on Unicom. Do not spam.
  • ATC Compliance: Expert Server ATC instructions must be followed immediately.

Official Operations Manual

The complete Standard Operating Procedures document is available as a downloadable file. All Discover Virtual pilots are required to read, understand, and execute operations based on this manual.

7.0 Flight Logging (PIREPs)

All manifests must be logged via our Crew Center system (Pilot Reports or PIREPs). Automated tracking dictates how your leisure flight hours accumulate.

7.1 Submission Criteria

  • Expert Server Required: All flights MUST be flown exclusively on the Infinite Flight Expert Server. Any flights logged on Training or Casual servers, or in Solo mode, will be immediately rejected.
  • Valid Routing: The route flown must be an iconic escape listed in the Discover Virtual database.
  • Rank Lock: You must use an aircraft assigned to that route, and hold the rank required for that aircraft.

7.2 Diversions & Emergencies

If real-life emergencies or severe ATC delays force a diversion to an airport not on your flight plan, you must log the flight manually and include detailed notes in the PIREP remarks. Dispatch will manually approve valid diversions.

8.0 Livery Protocol

To preserve our premium visual identity across the Infinite Flight skies, strict adherence to our livery policy is required.

8.1 The Primary Policy

  • Availability Rule: If an aircraft exists in Infinite Flight with the official Discover Airlines livery, you must use it for all network flights.
  • Missing Livery Substitute: If the required aircraft is in the simulator but lacks the Discover livery, you must use the Generic livery profile.
  • Prohibited Liveries: Under no circumstances may you fly a Discover route using the livery of another real-world airline. This will result in immediate PIREP rejection.

9.0 Network Operations

Our operations are anchored by world-class infrastructure. We strategically base our fleet to maximize reach across the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Indian Oceans.

Frankfurt Airport
Primary Hub

Frankfurt EDDF

The heart of our global network. Strategically located in central Europe, Frankfurt connects our short-haul fleet to the sunny shores of the Mediterranean and deploys our widebodies to distant tropics.

Munich Airport
Secondary Hub

Munich EDDM

Our premier southern gateway. Munich serves as a critical secondary launchpad, offering an exclusive selection of leisure routes specifically tailored to our expanding Airbus operations.

10.0 Career Progression

Progression at Discover Virtual is based entirely on approved flight hours logged through our Crew Center. As you ascend through the ranks, you will unlock larger, more complex aircraft and longer iconic escapes. You may not fly an aircraft that you have not yet unlocked.

10.1 The Flight Deck Ladder

Rank Title Hours Req. Equipment Clearance
Second Officer
0 — 25 A320 Family (Short Haul)
First Officer
25 — 100 A330 Type Rating (Medium Haul)

100 — 250 Full Fleet (Long Haul Command)
Snr. Captain
250+ Unrestricted Routing & VIP Charters

11.0 Activity Policy

To maintain your status as an active pilot with Discover Virtual, you must meet our minimum activity requirements to prevent roster bloat.

11.1 Monthly Requirements

  • 30-Day Rule: Pilots must log a minimum of one (1) valid flight every 30 days.
  • Expert Server Requirement: Flights must be flown exclusively on the Infinite Flight Expert Server. Training/Solo flights do not count towards activity.
  • Inactivity Penalty: Failure to meet the activity requirement without an active LOA will result in automatic removal from the roster. Upon rejoining, you may lose accumulated flight time.

11.2 Leave of Absence (LOA)

We understand that real life comes first. If you are unable to fly for an extended period, file an LOA exclusively via opening a ticket in the Discover Virtual Discord server. This protects your roster spot and hours for up to 90 days.

12.0 Transfer Hours

We recognize that many pilots come to Discover Virtual with vast experience. To respect your dedication to the community, we offer a transfer hour program.

12.1 Eligibility & Limits

  • New pilots may request to transfer up to a maximum of 25 flight hours from a previous or currently active IFVARB-certified Virtual Airline.
  • Transfer requests must be submitted within your first 14 days of joining.
  • Hours flown offline or in Solo mode at previous VAs will not be considered.

13.0 AP+ Limitations

In Infinite Flight, subscription features allow pilots to manage their virtual flying efficiently. To preserve the realism of flight hours, we maintain strict limits regarding concurrent simulation sessions.

13.1 Strict Concurrent Limits

You are permitted to have a maximum of one (1) active flight running on AP+ and 1 regular active flight at the exact same time.

Any PIREPs logged from abusive concurrent sessions will be immediately rejected. Participating in this behavior artificially inflates hours and may lead to removal.

14.0 Codeshares & Alliances

Discover Virtual participates in virtual airline alliances and operates an extensive codeshare network, allowing our pilots to explore the globe beyond our mainline routes.

14.1 Executing Codeshare Flights

  • You may only fly codeshare routes that are explicitly listed in the Discover Virtual database.
  • Callsign Rules: When flying a codeshare route, you must NOT use the Discover 'Ocean' callsign. You must use your assigned Discover pilot numbers appended to the codeshare partner's callsign (e.g., EG Speedbird 001VA).
  • Codeshare flights count identically to mainline flights regarding rank progression.
  • You must still adhere to aircraft rank restrictions when selecting a codeshare aircraft.

15.0 Official Events

Events are the lifeblood of our community. When representing Discover Virtual at internal group flights or public IFVARB events, your behavior is highly visible, and strict discipline is required.

Event Multiplier

All valid flights flown as part of an official Discover event are eligible for a 2x flight hour multiplier upon PIREP submission.

Spawning & Gates

Pilots must spawn at their assigned gate 15 minutes prior to pushback. Never spawn on top of another aircraft. Contact Dispatch if your gate is taken.

Flight Plan Sync

All participating pilots must copy the flight plan (FPL) directly from the designated Event Leader to ensure uniform routing.

Spacing & Separation

During cruise, maintain a minimum of 5 to 10 nautical miles of separation from the aircraft ahead. Do not "leapfrog" VA members.

16.0 Challenges & Rewards

New System

At Discover Virtual, your dedication to the skies pays off. By completing specific operational challenges, you can earn powerful PIREP multipliers and exclusive perks. Important: Each challenge can only be completed once per pilot (unless stated otherwise), and they are independent of each other.
